30th Apr 2024 | Newsletter

Dawn joined the Financial Services industry in 1989, working as an adviser with an Insurance Company. She then spent some time training other advisers before undertaking various roles within the Financial Services industry.

In 1999, Dawn joined Highwood to set up their mortgage desk, although she was also heavily involved in Compliance and back office administration. She became a Partner in 2002.

Dawn spends much of her time overseeing the day-to-day running of the firm and is the Compliance Officer.

We have asked Dawn a series of questions to get to know her better:

  1. How long have you worked at Highwood? – I’m about to celebrate 25 years working at Highwood
  2. What brought you to the Finance world? – I was taking a gap year before going to university and needed to work for a few months, so I applied for a job as a trainee tied adviser for an insurance company. That was in 1989 and I’ve not looked back!
  3. What financial service/ services do you specialise in? Most of my work is in Compliance, and it’s so varied that I love it, but I do very much enjoy seeing clients too
  4. What’s your hidden talent or something that most colleagues wouldn’t know about you? – I’m learning Spanish and want to be fluent
  5. What’s the best piece of advice you’ve ever received? – It’s the poem, Desiderata, by Max Ehrmann. It’s all great advice!
  6. What’s the most interesting book you’ve ever read or movie you’ve ever seen, and why? My favourite book is The Woman in White, by Wilkie Collins – the villain in that, Count Fosco, is so dastardly but you cant help but love him!
  7. What was your first job, and what did it teach you? – my first job was a paper round, and it taught me the discipline of getting up early every morning!
  8. If you could visit any place in the world, where would it be and why? I’d like to tour around Bali, I’ve been once but it wasn’t for long enough!
  9. What’s one item on your bucket list? – going to a yoga retreat in India
  10. Where is your favourite holiday destination? – it’s a tie between Mexico and the Maldives

Each month we will be introducing you to different members of our team, if you have a specific question you would like to ask please sent it to with the subject: Ask the Team.
